And yet again, I see why I didn’t seem to belong in Chadron. The following are actual calls to the police department. To think I was in line for a job working their dispatch. Obviously, someone was looking out for me!

Caller on Hwy 20 advised that he noticed some of the vehicles still have the windows rolled down. Requesting an officer to secure them.

Caller on the 200 block of Pine Street advised she thinks her black purse was stolen by a man. (That should be easy…nondescript black purse stolen by someone who could have been a man….hmmmm)

(And 15 minutes later)Caller on the 200 block of Pine Street advised that she would like to talk to an officer about someone accusing his son of stealing her purse. (Case closed–gotta love small towns)

Caller on the 100 block of Royal Court advised that two people brought something to his apartment that is stolen and he wants them removed. (But he’ll keep the stolen property)

Caller on the 600 block of Main Street advised that sometime just recently, someone threw a number of beer bottles in her yard. Requested an officer to come take a look at it. (Yep, those are beer bottles)

Caller on the 200 block of Morehead Street advised that a man was over trying to sell some T-bones that he had stolen from Safeway. (Again, the simplicity of living out in the middle of nowhere–thieves don’t have any place to unload their loot)

Caller on the 500 block of Linden Street advised that they received an anonymous tip that three females were in Chadron to shoplift a large amount of clothes. (Where? From Walmart?)

Caller on the 900 block of Parry Drive advised a squirrel has climbed down her chimney and is now in the fireplace looking at her through the glass door chirping at her. (Must have been looking for sweet_pickles)

Caller on the 700 block of Bordeaux Street advised that she would like to talk to an officer about her daughter.

(And 2 hours later) Caller on the 700 block of Bordeaux Street advised that she still hasn’t made it home yet but just got off the phone with her daughter and she was saying some things that are not appropriate for her to say.

Caller on Dunlap Road advised that she is riding with 3 males and 2 females in a truck and the driver has been drinking and they are lost.

Caller on the 500 block of Linden Street advised they are detaining a subject for shoplifitting. Requesting an officer. (So much for that gang of girls–but I still don’t remember a clothing store other than Walmart and a women’s store on Main St)

Caller on Pine Street advised that there is a dog jumping on her dog. Tried to shoo the other dog off, but it would not get off. Would like to have an officer get the dog off.

(And the next morning) Caller on Pine Street advised that the horny dog is back and now her dog will not quit barking. Stated he keeps trying to hump her dog.

Caller on the 500 block of Bordeaux Street advised that two kids came to school with notes saying they had dental appointments at 12. Advised they are both in the city library right now. (in a small town, you can’t even play hooky decently)

Things are Looking Up

On the plus side today:
My state refund check has been deposited into my bank account!
I’m about to pay off my last credit card!
I got a decent night’s sleep!
There was nothing mission critical at work!
It’s in the 30s!
It’s going to get even warmer for the weekend!
I’ve now got online access to my car loan!
I’ve learned how to back up our data and add new users to our network!

On the down side:
The bank still thinks my car is registered in Nebraska.
This may require taking a day off to resolve.
I still have a little tickle in the back of my throat.

All in all, the good definitely outweighs the bad.

Another Tarot Assignment

I was assigned two readings this week, but I haven’t posted because I’m waiting for some clarification on one of them from the instructor. I guess I can do the one called Gifts of the Angels for anyone who wants one. It’s a 5 card spread telling you the strengths you have been given–sometimes we need to hear positive things about ourselves.

It may take me a little while to respond but please bear with me. I will get them all done before Saturday afternoon.

What a Day!

Our organization was involved with a lobby day at the state capitol to urge legislators to “Protect Our Water”. So I was nominated to be the “volunteer”. I spoke with people involved back in January and told them that I was willing to volunteer again (even though last year I got to stand around for 3 hours as kind of a “living sign” pointing people to a room down the hall). I hadn’t heard from anyone, so I called the organization that was organizing the event, let’s call them CW, last Friday to see if they needed me. No one bothered to call me back. Our IT guy’s last day is Friday, so we decided that we would take him to lunch today around 1 pm. This was decided on Monday.

Yesterday afternoon around 3, I got a phone call from CW wondering who else from my organization would be volunteering.

Me: Ummm….just me. Am I on a some sort of list?
CW: Yeah, we’ve got you down to stand in the hall and direct traffic from 1-4.
Me: Hmmm….that’s not going to work. I’ve got a meeting at 1 pm. And no one ever got back to me to tell me what time I need to show up.
CW: Oh. Well is there something else you could do instead?
Me: What have you got?
CW: Well, we need help setting up at 7 am (remember I am NOT a morning person), someone to help role-play legislator meetings at the morning session, or you could greet busses from 10:30 until noon.
Me: I think I’ll do the bus thing.

The person I was talking to was supposed to also be greeting busses–there were to be three of us, but she didn’t know what time or where we were supposed to meet. She thought 10:30 on the capitol steps (the busses weren’t scheduled to arrive until after 11). She said she’d get back to me with the details.

I never got a phone call back, but I left the office at 10 to be sure I was on the capitol steps at 10:30 all by myself. I’m not sure exactly what one does when greeting busses–and I’m still not. The CW person showed up at about 10:50 after the first bus had already arrived (I was inside trying to figure out what was going on). The second bus arrived at about 11:15. The CW person got on the bus and made an announcement, just standard crap. The trick was that the bus driver was supposed to pick up some people who had attended the morning session but didn’t know a)how to get to the Science Museum from the state capitol and b)didn’t know who he was supposed to pick up. So, I got to ride along with him. We got to the Science Museum only to find that there were more people there than our bus would take and due to some confusion, the busses hadn’t been returning to make sure everyone got to the capitol. I swore to the girl in charge (someone who not only trained me for my position, but has bailed me out of many a jam) that I would send a bus back for her.

Of course by the time, we were back at the capitol, another bus had shown up and finished transporting everyone. I was supposed to attend the rally, but my boss had a grant report due to one of our major funders, so I ducked out the back to get back to the office.

We did go to lunch with our IT guy, but I wound up staying late putting the finishing touches on the report and overnighting it to New York.

People–your lack of organization skills and procrastination do not make your problem my responsibility. I will do everything I can to help, but for pete’s sake I’m sick and only got 5 hours of sleep last night!

Meme from sueg

10 Years Ago:

Where did you live? I was still living with my mother in Red Wing (hey! now I live with my dad, I’ve really moved up in the world)

Where did you work? I was working for a temp agency trying to get some experience. At this time 10 years ago, I was working at the drive up window of a credit union.

Did you have a boyfriend or girlfriend? I was dating Chris, a former Marine, who tried to control me. However, he was a step in the right direction from Tony, the abusive alcoholic. Of course, I wound up getting back together with Tony for awhile.

What was your biggest fear? Never finding a job that was worth a college degree.

What made you happy? Going to the bars with friends, books

Who did you look up to? Various co-workers who seemed to have their lives together. Anyone who had graduated college, found a career and had their own apartment.

What did you think you would be doing ten years from that point? Not a clue. I guess I was hoping that the credit union would hire me on a permanent basis.

What did you want to change about yourself? I wanted to be more confident. I wanted to be more independent.

Current day:

Where do you live? various locations. officially, I live at my father’s in Red Wing. But I spend most of my time at my boyfriend’s or house-sitting

Where do you work? In St. Paul for an environmental advocacy group.

Do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend? I have a boyfriend–not controlling or abusive.

What is your biggest fear? Financial ruin.

What makes you happy? Socializing with friends, games, books

Who do you look up to? I don’t really think about this. I’ve been using my current boss as a mentor.

What do you think you’ll be doing in ten years? I hope that I will have a family. I’m not sure if I’ll be a stay at home mom, or working.

What do you want to change about yourself? I need to get my finances in order. I really should learn to control my temper and exercise more patience. And I could stand to lose a few pounds.

I needed last weekend. I spent Friday by myself just doing the things I wanted to do, nothing I had to do. I slept in on Saturday and took my time puttering around, then headed to Red Wing. My tarot class was fantastic, but I need more information regarding one of the new spreads. I’ll be emailing the instructor for that information. Also, she suggested that I start doing some readings for the store where the classes are held–either online or in person. She says that I’m doing very well–thanks to everyone who’s helping me practice!

I wasn’t tired on Saturday night and told myself that if I got up in time, I would go to church on Sunday. Surprise! I was awake at 7 am (that doesn’t happen during a normal day much less when I can sleep in!) so I kept my word and went. I also decided to stay for the bible study that followed because they were looking at the book of Esther. It was interesting because the pastor was not well-prepared. He was really struggling to get the message of the story across and some of the women said that the theme was that God puts people in certain situations at certain times for a reason. When he mentioned that he had never looked at it that way and had thought the book should have been called Mordecai, one of the woman responded “That’s because you’re a man!”.

I don’t mean to give the impression that this pastor is sexist–he really isn’t, I just thought the situation was funny.
