Even though I work in Minneapolis, I don’t often enjoy the variety of entertainment there. Or even eat at the restaurants. Instead, I tend to head home immediately after work. However, on any given night there are a number of things I could do if I made the effort to find out what they are.
Last week, a friend told me that she had free tickets to Orchestra Hall to see a performance of the 1812 Overture, Queen Mab, Hungarian Dances, and Hungarian Rhapsody. It’s been ages since I’ve been to a concert, so I’m really looking forward to it. And it’s tonight.
Then on Monday, a co-worker told me that he could get tickets to Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean speaking at the Guthrie Theater. There are no advance tickets–you have to wait in line, first come-first serve sort of thing, but his wife works for the Walker Art Center and can get passes. That’s also tonight.
Why oh why is it that when Gaiman comes to talk or sign I always have something else planned?!!!!! Fortunately, he lives in Minnesota so I have a pretty good chance of meeting/seeing him in person some day because he usually ends his tours here and gives little speaking engagements from time to time.
I just have to remind myself that I really am looking forward to this concert. It’s going to be great. If I didn’t know about the other thing, I’d be bouncing off the walls.
Wow — Two great events indeed. True about sweet Neil though, he is reallly good with his media — I’m sure you will have many more chances to meet him π
