I sat in a strategic planning meeting yesterday where something very ironic happened. I have made comments to my boss that I often don’t have enough challenging program work to do. Everyone else seems swamped in the office and yet I have time to blog, read my friends’ pages, and keep up with a message board (not that I told my boss that).
So imagine my surprise when we were reviewing our program work and I learned that the bulk of the program work I do is probably going to be cut because it no longer ties into the organization’s strategies or mission. I tend to agree, but…….well it’s my stuff! It’s the stuff I actually like to do and I’m good at it. I’ve been assured that there is going to be some restructuring and I”ll be getting more program work that will be challenging and similar to what I currently do.* But it left an odd feeling.
No, I don’t think they’re trying to eliminate my position. It’s just that my duties may be changing fairly drastically.
Like I don’t have enough change going on in my life right now.
*I’ve been told for the past two years that there would be more program work coming my way, as opposed to operations work (office management, accounting, etc).
